Guided by the philosophy of "a balance between body and mind, and the pursuit of excellence, the Tsinghua University sports teams advocate for the "Integration of Sports and Education" policy, striving to cultivate student-athletes who are well-rounded in moral, intellectual, and physical aspects. Currently, Tsinghua's sports teams have become the largest and most comprehensive athletic teams among Chinese universities, consisting of over 1,200 members across 53 teams in 44 sports, divided into three categories (A, B, and C). Among them, the three high-level teams—track and field, basketball, and shooting—have achieved outstanding results in various national and international competitions, winning multiple gold medals at the National Games of China, the Asian Games, and the World University Games. Enrolled students have also competed in the Beijing, London, and Rio Olympic Games. To date, the department has cultivated nearly 100 Masters of Sports, including 12 International Masters of Sports.
