1. Academic Institutions
Guided by the Key Research Base of the General Administration of Sport and led by university-level research centers, the Physical Education discipline at Tsinghua University has continuously expanded its research areas, with academic institutions now flourishing. These mainly include: ① The Key Research Base of Sport Social Sciences of the General Administration of Sport of China, one of the first national-level key research bases for sport social sciences in the country. It has undertaken more than 60 research projects at various levels, including projects from the National Social Science Fund and the General Administration of Sport of China. ② The Tsinghua University Research Center for Sports and Health Science, which is responsible for conducting health risk assessments for all students and faculty and providing injury treatment for athletes on high-level sports teams. ③ In addition, the discipline has also established a total of 8 research centers, including the Research Center for Traditional Chinese Sports, the Research Center for Chinese Football Development, the Research Center for Competitive Sports Culture, the Research Center for Sport History, the Research Center for Physical Training and Rehabilitation, and the Research Center for Wushu Culture, all under the Department of Physical Education. These research centers have their own research teams and have achieved considerable success in their respective fields.
2. Laboratories
Since the 1990s, based on its professional talent, the Department of Physical Education has gradually established specialized laboratories to conduct professional research. These include the Tsinghua University Laboratory of Human Kinesiology, a collaborative effort involving multiple departments and disciplines; the Chinese Anthropometric Research Laboratory, which won the second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award; the Human Motion Information Detection and Simulation Laboratory, which has undertaken multiple key projects from the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Education; the Sport Biomechanics Laboratory, which has provided specialized technical testing, diagnosis, and evaluation for over 2,000 members of the national rowing team; and the Speed Training Laboratory, which provides an important basis for improving the specificity of training for sprinters and other athletes in speed-dependent sports in China.
